Highland Heart Hookery offers a wide variety of supplies for rug hooking in the traditional manner of wool fabrics as well as courses for beginner to advanced students. We are  located in Atlantic Canada.  Our products and services are featured on this web site.  Our beautiful, hand-dyed wools are sought after by those who want to hook beautiful rugs. They are available to you through our studio and mail order business, as are our lines of Folk Art patterns, based upon the paintings of Maud Lewis and Joe Norris. We also offer patterns from a variety of other designers and artists.

Colour planning assistance is available when you purchase our wools.

Our Mission

At Highland Heart Hookery, we take pride in offering the highest quality products for rug hooking at value prices to our customers with a wide variety of choices.

Classes and Workshops:

We offer a variety of classes and  workshops for rug hooking. Doug is an accredited teacher of the McGown Guild who has taught in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario, and the US. . His work has been showcased in the Eye See you project which travelled in the United States for a year. His work is currently being showcased in the Tarot Card project in the US. This is a two year tour in the US and Canada. It will be at the Rug Hooking Museum of North America this summer. Please check their website for dates.

 He continues to upgrade his McGown certification by taking the teachers` workshops in the US every year as well as teaching other McGown teachers at those workshops. Doug has taught a wide variety of workshops including fine shading, Maud Lewis, large flowers, mandalas, magical landscapes, Grenfell, orientals and dying. His students have hooked beautiful oriental rugs, fine flower shaded rugs, leaves, and pictorials. 

Classes are held most Wednesdays from September to the end of November and from January until the end of May. If you have not been attending these classes, please phone 902-445-4644 to ensure availability. These are open classes where you take a beginner course from us or you bring whatever project with which you wish assistance.

Doug will be teaching a workshop in Grenfell rug hooking using nylons July 7,8, and 9. For registration or additional information, contact the Rug Hooking Museum of North America.
